Scoreboard Watching with Carl James – 2/18/19

by Carl James • @jovian34 • Feb 18

What happened with my five series to watch in week 1 from Friday?

1. Purdue at Southern Miss

Southern Miss swept Purdue. Don’t read too much into that yet, though. Friday was extra innings, Saturday was close, and Southern Miss may be very good. The verdict is still out on the Boilers.

2. Evansville at Mercer

Aces pull off 1 win on Sunday to salvage a 1-2 weekend against a good Mercer team. Could be a sign Aces are improved in 2019.

3. Canisius at North Carolina Central

Canisius went 1-2 on the weekend, not exactly a great start, but its a northern school and its still early.

4. Minnesota in the College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Arizona

1-2 (so far) – defeated Gonzaga 8-5, blown out by New Mexico and Oregon State. Friday was a strong day as expected, but there are still questions for the rest of the weekend. The Gophers have one more game vs. Gonzaga on Monday

5. RUTGERS swept by Miami

The Scarlet Knights were outscored 35-7 on the weekend. However, their voting skills are still top of the line.

Overall, Hoosier Baseball opponents (on the 2019 schedule as a whole) were 27-23 on Sunday maintaining the just over 0.500 trend of the weekend (83-77).

And in case #iubase fans are curious, I’m not paying too much attention to #17 Michigan until they take their trip to California March 5th-10th. Includes 5 games against great teams, two nationally ranked.
