Indiana had only pride to play for in the final series of the weekend, and they came out on top, beating Illinois two games to one.

The Thursday opener was Tony Neubeck’s seventh quality start in 10 conference outings, and impressive feat for the Hoosier ace. Hogan Denny went 3-for-3 and freshman Owen ten Oever hit a three-run bomb as teh Hoosiers cruised to a commanding 10-4 win.

Friday saw the Hoosiers fall behind and then tie the game late with four runs in the ninth including a solo shot by Will Moore and then facing the final out, a three-run blast by Hogan Denny. The Hoosiers were unable to hold on and lost in the tenth 9-7.

The Saturday finale showed the Hoosier’s offensive fight by wearing down a very talented freshman arm and putting up a 6-spot in the fourth inning thanks in part to a grand slam off the bat of freshman outfield Cal Gates. Brayton Thomas labored through four scoreless frames and then turned the game over to senior Pete Haas who turned in an efficient gem, putting up 4 scoreless of his own before freshman Kellen English slammed the door.

Indiana climbed out of the cellar to finish above Northwestern by one game at 9-21 in Big Ten play and 23-31 overall.
