Hoosiers look to even up the series in East Lansing

Top 9th: Hoosiers 6, Spartans 7 (FINAL)

Serruto works the count full and flies out to the shortstop. Glasser gets his hit of the night, an opposite field single. Whalen singles to bring up the tying run in Devin Taylor. Taylor grounds out. Brock Tibbitts now represents the tying run at the plate. Tibbitts walks and Mathison is up with the bases loaded. Mathison walks. The tying run is now in scoring position for Josh Pyne. An infield single goes station to station. Tying run at third. Jesse lines out to center. Michigan State clinches the series win and a B1G Tournament berth. Maryland is guaranteed a share of the B1G regular season title.

Bottom 8th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 7

Ben “Bigs” Seiler is the new Hoosier pitcher. He gets two quick flyouts. He ends the 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.

Top 8th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 7

Jessee walks but is stranded. Hoosiers down to three outs to salvage the series.

Bottom 7th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 7

A lead off single is followed up by two strikeouts with Yoho’s nasty off-speed stuff. A walk puts a runner in scoring position. A slurve strikeout ends the inning.

Top 7th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 7

Michigan State’s Cook is cooking. Hoosiers go down 1-2-3. Stretch time.

Bottom 6th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 7

Yoho hits the lead-off batter’s helmet. A walk adds another runner and Dustin Glant is out to talk to Yoho. A sacrifice bunt puts both runners in scoring position with one out. An RBI single plates them both. A stolen base, a flyout and a hit-by-pitch puts two on with two outs. A strikeout will get the Hoosiers back up to bat.

Top 6th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 5

Tyler Cerny rips a one-out double to the right center gap. Serruto moves him over with fly ball out to right. Cerny is stranded by a Glasser groundout.

Bottom 5th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 5

Yoho just overmatches the Spartan hitters. 1-2-3.

Top 5th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 5

Tibbitts strikes out on an elevated fastball. Mathison is walked, but is erased on another double play.

Bottom 4th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 5

A bunt single gets the inning going for the Spartans. A sacrifice bunt moves the runner into scoring position. Taylor can’t get in front of what should have been a single to right, and the runner gets to third on two base error. what was later ruled a triple. Risedorph’s day is done. Craig Yoho is the new Hoosier pitcher.

Top 4th: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 4

Phillip Glasser has two hits on the night but is erased on a double play. Taylor flies out to end the inning.

Bottom 3rd: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 4

Risedorph surrenders a lead-off single, his first allowed hit of the game. Pyne commits Indiana’s fourth error of the game. Pyne makes a great play cutting off a runner going home, but a single drives in the tying run.

Top 3rd: Hoosiers 4, Spartans 3

Hoosiers get the the bases loaded with no outs yet again, prompting a pitching change. Tibbitts hits a sacrifice fly, then Mathison hits a ball so hard it bounces off the right field fence and he only gets an RBI single. Pyne is also doubled up, but an error on the attempted catch at first which would have got Pyne allows Taylor to score. Jessee deposits a ball in no man’s land near the foul line in left field getting Pyne to third. Cerny takes a pitch off of his elbow to load the bases with two outs. Serruto strikes out.

Bottom 2nd: Hoosiers 1, Spartans 3

It’s ugly baseball from the Hoosiers. Risedorph hits the lead off batter on the leg. Phillip Glasser fails to come up with a chopper for an error. Tyler Cerny misses a grounder at second for another error and Taylor tries to make a throw to third that allows both remaining runners to get into scoring position with no outs. A walk loads the bases. An RBI groundout and sacrifice fly allows the Spartans to take a multi-run lead. Then a throwing error on a steal attempt by Peter Serruto gets the runner to third with two outs. A flyout ends the 3-run inning. Sparty still doesn’t have a hit.

Top 2nd: Hoosiers 1, Spartans 0

Brock Tibbitts works a lead-off walk. Carter Mathison takes an 0-2 pitch to the ground on the left side beating the shift. Pyne loads the bases working a full count walk. Infield meets at the mound as Hunter Jessee comes to the plate, then the pitching coach comes out as well. There is a righty throwing in the Michigan State bullpen. Jessee hits a ball on a line in the air to the right fielder for a sacrifice fly. Tyler Cerny flies out on one pitch. A ground ball fielder’s choice ends the inning.

Bottom 1st: Hoosiers 0, Spartans 0

Brayden Risedorph is pitching ahead holding at 94-MPH on the fastball. He strikes out the side to go 1-2-3.

Top 1st: Hoosiers 0, Spartans 0

Bobby Whalen duplicates his chopper from Thursday for a one-out single, but makes the third out when trying to steal.
