Ten B1G conference starts, 7 were quality starts (minimum 6 innings, maximum 3 earned runs) for Missouri grad transfer Tony Neubeck. Working on short rest, Neubeck was excellent, not allowing his 2nd and 3rd runs until the 7th inning. All told he did give up 8 hits, but allowed only one walk, exactly what you want when pitching with a lead most of the game. After the game head coach Jeff Mercer, “He’s been remarkable,” adding that, “he’s really diversified his pitch repertoire of the course of the year and extended out.”

On offense, Hogan Denny set the tone for IU in a 3-hit day as both the lead-off hitter and now playing third base after a season primary spent in the outfield when not catching. After the game I asked head coach Jeff Mercer if there was a position he couldn’t play and coach could not come up with one, joking that Denny even wants to pitch.

Freshman Owen ten Oever has been the difference maker lately in a Hoosier offense that was largely devoid of power early in the season. His 3-run homer in the 6th inning seemingly put the game away. ten Oever went 2 for 3 with a walk, and a hard-hit sacrifice fly that got him to 4 runs batted in on the day.
Next up for Indiana is Senior night Friday at 6pm. Lefty Conner Linn will be on the bump for the Hoosiers.
