Bottom 9th: no. 23 Indiana 8, Baylor 4 (FINAL)

Holderfield is back out to attempt to complete the save. Holderfield gets a quick strikeout. Apodaca grounds out to Burckel at second. Holderfield gets behind 3-1 and gives up a single up the middle. He gets ahead 0-2 to the lefty and ends the game with a strikeout.

Top 9th: no. 23 Indiana 8, Baylor 4

Indiana hasn’t scored in four innings and would really like some insurance. Taylor gets on base for the fifth time today with his 11th single of the 5 game old season. Tibbitts goes the other way against the shift for a ground ball single to right field. Cerny attempts a bunt which is tapped hard, but goes foul. His second bunt is deadened, but rolls back into foul territory. Cerny goes down swinging. Stadler swings at two curveballs below the zone and then grounds out to the pitcher. A wild pitch plates Taylor adding a touch of insurance.

Bottom 8th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Redshirt Sophomore Grant Holderfield is in to attempt the 6-out save. He was awarded the win on Tuesday in one inning of work on Tuesday at the Bart against Miami. Holderfield throws a nasty 2-2 slider to freeze his first batter for a strikeout. Taylor dives into foul territory and face plants into the wall. After being tended to he’s back in the left field. After mixing off-speed, Holderfield ends the inning with a swinging strikeout on a fastball.

Top 8th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Burckel hits a ball on the screws but right at the third baseman. Mathison walks on five pitches. Pyne grounds to the shortstop and is ruled out when Mathison turns in his slide and interferes with the second baseman trying to turn the double play.

Bottom 7th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Tonghini is still the pitcher for the Hoosiers. He gets ahead and induces a flyout to Taylor in left field. Tonghini is still mixing up his pitches. He has been a bit wild and walks Posey with two outs. No damage as the inning ends with a fielder’s choice to Cerny.

Top 7th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

A deep out, but nothing going for the Hoosiers. Time to stretch.

Bottom 6th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Essentially a 1-2-3 inning for Tonghini who is settling in nicely.

Bottom 5th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Tonghini is back out and still a bit wild walking the leadoff man on four pitches. Wesley Jordan whiffs on a 3-2 curveball for the first out of the inning. A chopper to Pyne turns into a 5-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Top 5th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Indiana goes down 1-2-3

Bottom 4th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 4

Baylor rips two doubles to cut into the Hoosier lead. Risedorph gets a quick out on a ball ripped right at Devin Taylor. With the Bears seeing Risedorph well, he walks a batter and Jeff Mercer gives the ball to Julian Tonghini. Tonghini earned the save against George Mason on Sunday with three shutout innings. On the first pitch Enzo Apodaca rips a double down the left field line plating both. Tonghini walks his second batter on four pitches. Tonghini gets a strikeout and then induces another dribbler giving Pyne another chance to show off his MLB quality glove.

Top 4th: no. 23 Indiana 7, Baylor 1

Josh Pyne leads off with a double down the line. Taylor chops a ball to third base. Pyne took enough of a jump off of second base to force a look back and that gave Taylor just enough time to leg out a single. Tibbitts bunts for a hit. Cerny is up with the bases loaded. Cerny grounds into a 6-4-3 double play scoring Pyne. Jake Stadler works a full count, but pops out to the pitcher.

Bottom 3rd: no. 23 Indiana 6, Baylor 1

Baylor loads the bases with their fourth hit of the day. Glant is out to talk to Risedorph. Indiana bullpen gets active. Risedorph gets Ty Johnson swinging on a nasty breaking ball for out number one. ⭐ Josh Pyne charges a dribbler for the second out, but a run scores. Risedorph ends the threat with another chasing strikeout.

Top 3rd: no. 23 Indiana 6, Baylor 0

Devin Taylor continues to show his trademark patience and works a lead-off walk from 0-2. Tibbitts drives in his second run of the game lacing a double down the left field line. Cerny and Stadler single, then Cal Sefcik hits a sacrifice fly and Morgan Colopy launches a two-run bomb to right center. Marriott’s day is done. New pitcher R.J. Ruais strikes out Burckel and Mathison to end the inning.

Bottom 2nd: no. 23 Indiana 1, Baylor 0

Cole Posey legs out an infield single. A pop out is followed up with looking strikeout that paints the outside corner. Will Pendergrass hits an opposite field single to right. Posey does not challenge Morgan Colopy’s arm and holds up at second. Tyriq Kemp fouls off two two-strike pitches and draws a full count before fouling another pitch off. On the tenth pitch of the at bat he grounds out to Burckel at second.

Top 2nd: no. 23 Indiana 1, Baylor 0

Jake Stadler leads off the inning with a double. Brandon Burckel and Carter Mathison draw two-out walks to load the bases for Josh Pyne who pop out foul.

Bottom 1st: no. 23 Indiana 1, Baylor 0

Risedorph goes 1-2-3 t start the game including helping his own cause on defense.

Top 1st: no. 23 Indiana 1, Baylor 0

Josh Pyne gets the first hit of the day with a single off the glove of the first baseman. Devin Taylor hits a rocket to the left field fence prompting the Bears left fielder Hunter Simmons to collide with the wall by the 375 marker. Trainers are attending to Simmons. He gets up with help and is being carted off the field. Marriott is warming up again. Taylor is on second and Pyne on third with one out. Cole Posey is the new left fielder. Brock Tibbitts hits a short SAC fly requiring a a diving catch, but still driving in Pyne.
