Top 9th: Indiana 2, Penn State 7 (FINAL)

Two on, two out. Need to score five. Ellis grounds out. Hoosier fall to 3-1 in the B1G standings. Indiana struggled to get hits with runners on base. Penn State capitalized.

Penn State responds with another solo shot to tie the game. A double followed that and the Hoosier bullpen now has activity. A swinging bunt puts runners on the corners with no outs. Jay Harry fouls off a bunch of pitches and finally comes through with an RBI single and Sinnard is in trouble. A double play scores one more but at least gets Sinnard a couple a desperately needed outs.

Top 3rd: Indiana 2, Penn State 1

Josh Pyne leads off with a single on a swinging bunt. Taylor replaces him with a fielder’s choice just outrunning the double play. Brock Tibbitts hits a double to the gap. Assistant Coach Derrick Simmons sent Taylor testing the relay which was off home plate by a good margin allowing Taylor to score. Tibbitts stole third and almost scored on a Tyler Cerny slow dribbler, but Cerny was thrown out by a step.

Bottom 2nd: Indiana 1, Penn State 1

Billy Gerlott ripped the first pitch he saw over the left field fence for a solo shot that tied the game with two outs. Sinnard then walked the next batter and stranded him with a fly out.

Top 2nd: Indiana 1, Penn State 0

Henline gives up another two-out hit to Bobby Whalen whose cheering section is very audible on the audio call. Whalen moves into scoring position with 3-1 walk of catcher Peter Serruto. Phillip Glasser grounded out to end the inning with no damage.

Bottom 1st: Indiana 1, Penn State 0

Luke Sinnard gets opening series duties since this is a double header. He gets three easy contact outs to get the Hoosiers back into the dugout.

Top 1st: Indiana 1, Penn State 0

Jaden Henline is the starting pitcher for Penn State. Henline is statistically (1.11 WHIP) the best Nittany Lion pitcher with more than 20 innings pitched on the year. He’s just recently joined the starting rotation and had the only good start for Penn State against Michigan. Devin Taylor rips a triple down the line with two outs and Brock Tibbitts drives him in with a single.

Starters

Without the advantage of giving some relievers a day off between Friday and Sunday with a Saturday double-header, Head Coach Jeff Mercer has apparently elected to go with his true starter Luke Sinnard to open the series. If the Hoosiers can get the weather to cooperate in a the coming weeks I would suspect they keep Sinnard in the middle game of the series.
