Soft contact outs keep Indiana from producing offense

Indiana lost to the Auburn Tigers 6-1 on Saturday. Hoosier hitters were making contact all day, but early ground outs and late flyouts were about all that happened. Phillip Glasser stayed hot getting two more hits on the day. The rest of the starting lineup struggled mightly.

Indiana’s only run and hit with runners in scoring position came on a pinch hit by touted freshman Devin Taylor.

Several Indiana pitchers got into trouble with walks and Auburn was effective in driving them home with timely hitting. All said, the Hoosier pitchers held the Tigers to only 6 runs, which this Hoosier offense is usually able to eclipse.

Indiana’s best opportunity to cut the Tiger lead was in the top of the sixth inning when the Hoosiers loaded the bases with one out for Josh Pyne. Pyne struck out and Ellis flew out.

The Hoosiers and Tigers are back at it Sunday at 2pm Eastern. Auburn is going for an opening series sweep.
