Bothwell gets the win, Brenczewski and Mitchell each with four hits as Hoosiers dominate 15-6

Brock Tibbitts, sidelined with a lower leg injury, missed what would have been his 150th start in an Indiana uniform. Carter Mathison and Devin Taylor had uncharacteristically tough days at the plate combining to go 0-12 on the day. Given no contributions from arguably the three most keys Hoosier hitters, and hitting no home runs at all, it’s all the more remarkable that this Hoosier team, on the road, in a conference Friday night, against the defending champs put up 15 earned runs on 19 hits on the way to a dominating win over Maryland on Friday.
Indiana Hoosiers 15, Maryland Terrapins 4:

Both sixth-year starting pitchers threw over 100 pitches in six full innings of work. Indiana’s lefty Ty Bothwell had the better day, limiting the Terrapins to four runs (three of them earned). Maryland righty Kenny Lippman allowed 6 earned runs on 8 hits, but kept the game close in the hopes that the “Cardiac Terps” would be able to pull off yet another close game victory late against what has been a shaky Hoosier bullpen.
The Hoosiers bullpen, while not dominant with four different arms, managed to keep the Terps off of the scoreboard the rest of the way. The Maryland bullpen, however, allowed 14 baserunners and 9 runs as the Hoosiers ran away with the game in the later innings.
Nick Mitchell and Joey Brenczewski paced the Hoosiers, each going 4 for 5 on the day, in the fifth and sixth hole respectively, behind Tyler Cerny hitting 3 for 4 and in front of Jake Stadler and Josh Pyne who also each had three hits. All those hits in bunches lead to 15 runs and put the game out of reach for Maryland who fell to 8th place in the B1G standings, while Indiana improved to 2-2 (.500) in 6th place.
The Maryland series resumes today in College Park, when Hoosier ace sophomore righty Connor Foley attempts to give Indiana a much-needed series win at 2pm.
