It was great turn-around performance for the Indiana offense. Josh Pyne in particular climbed out of a slump to get four hits on the day. Indiana still managed to leave a bunch of men on base including three situations with a runner on third and less than two outs producing no runs.

Hoosier pitching worked around a tough 3rd inning that included three balls hit into traditional defensive coverage areas that were hits due to the Hoosiers being in a defensive shift. After the doubleheader Jeff Mercer complimented Troy on their hitters saying, “they’re old enough and they’re good enough that they just hit out of it.” Mercer said that assistant coach Derek Simmons had a good scouting report, but Troy hitters responded so Indiana elected to stop extreme shifts the rest of the day.

Jack Moffitt and Ryan Kraft solidified the pitching after the Hoosiers retook the lead and allowed Indiana to claim a bounce back win. When asked about Moffitt coach Mercer said, “the sinker has been terrific. [Pitching] coach [Dustin] Glant was able to teach him a different sinker when he came in. So he’s been awesome for us. It’s a low release with big time sinker. He’s been a strike thrower and a competitor. He’s a guy that could potentially be a starter for you.”
