Talking Hoosier Baseball – 2026 – Week 2 – Jacksonville

Chris, Carl, Cass, and Zach discuss Indiana’s 2-5 start to the season

This is our first weekly podcast of the season and we have two weekends of play and midweek to cover. Before we get started we wanted to acknowledge the passing in October of last year of former IU events manager, guest, and friend of the show John Bower following a long battle with cancer.

One of the things he did for us was let us know ahead of time that we needed to have a camera at the first base fan entrance to Bart Kaufman Field well before first pitch against Penn State on April 6th, 2019. He wouldn’t tell us why. We trusted him and as such, I managed to get a couple of pictures of John driving Bob Knight into the Bart, marking Coach Knight’s return to the IU campus for the first time in almost two decades.

John was always very gracious with us and boy was he on the ball when it came to dealing with bad weather. We always knew when he had a device out talking to the umpires, things were about to get ugly. We will miss John, and offer our thoughts to his family.

And since we mentioned Coach Knight, Cass wanted to be sure we noted today is the 41st anniversary of the infamous chair tossing incident.

Back to baseball: Indiana is currently 2 – 5 on the year, suffering a sweep at the hands of number 8 North Carolina in the opening weekend. The Hoosiers picked up a run-rule win at home last Tuesday against Bradley, then one of three at the Live Like Lou Jacksonville Classic.
