Top 9th: Indiana 4, East Carolina 17 (FINAL)
Jessee leads off with single to right. Pyne flies out to center. Mathison gets on with a single. Brock Tibbitts rips an RBI-double down the left field line. Ethan Vecrumba pinch hits and strikes out swinging. Tyler Cerny lines out to right to end the game.
Bottom 8th: Indiana 3, East Carolina 17
In an unexpected move, Ty Bothwell is the new Hoosier pitcher. He plunks the lead off batter. Then gives up a walk and an RBI single, then walks the bases loaded. Mercer has seen enough and goes back to the bullpen. Gabe Levy is on in the “fireman” role for the second time in two games. It does not go well. He gets a strikeout and an RBI-groundout, then gives up a three-run bomb with two strikes. A flyout stops the bleeding.
Top 8th: Indiana 3, East Carolina 12
Left on left, Matthew Ellis gets an opposite field single. Sam Murrison in to pinch run for Ellis. Cerny rips a single up the middle. Riley Langerman is pinch hitting for Pete Serruto. A wild pitch moves both runners into scoring position. Langerman drives in Murrison on a sacrifice fly. Glasser is on fire. He adds another double for his fourth hit of the day driving in Cerny. Whalen strikes out to end the inning stranding Glasser in scoring position.
Bottom 7th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 12
Cooper Hellman is the new Hoosier pitcher. Hellman’s curveball is breaking hard. He induces three groundouts for a 1-2-3 inning.
Top 7th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 12
The first Pirate from the bullpen doesn’t last long. Glasser came up just a triple shy of the cycle. The second tight pitch hits him. Whalen bunts Glasser over and Jessee walks. Call to the ‘pen. Willie Lumpkin is the new ECU pitcher and he ends the Hoosier threat with no damage.
Bottom 6th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 12
Vega remains in to eat innings. Carter Mathison tries to catch a liner to right that gets past him for a lead off triple that scores on a sacrifice fly. Vega ends the inning with a strikeout.
Top 6th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 11
Mathison legs out an infield single with one out thanks to a replay. Tibbitts works a walk and gets Yesavage’s pitch count to 98. ECU keeps Yesavage in the game and he strikes out Matthew Ellis. Cerny gets on and loads the bases via a strikeout wild pitch in the dirt. Serruto looks at strike three to end the bases loaded threat.
Bottom 5th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 11
Ey is back on the bump. He allows a lead of runner via a hit by pitch. Josh Moylan hits a single. Chrisman flies out. Nowak lays down a perfect bunt for a single to load the bases with only one out. Starling gets to Ey again, this time with a bases clearing triple. Starling has 6 RBIs on the day and the Hoosiers are in an 8-run hole.
Adrian Vega is the new Hoosier pitcher. Tibbitts makes a great diving grab on a line drive for out two. Justin Wilcoxen golfs a pitch over the right field fence for two more runs.
Top 5th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 6
Tyler Cerny flies out to right to start the inning. Peter Serruto flies out to left center. ECU does have action the their bullpen. Glasser fights off a pitch down the left field line for a double. That’s Glasser’s third hit of the game. Whalen walks and Glasser steals third. They are left stranded by a Jessee strikeout.
Bottom 4th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 6
Brooks Ey is the new new Hoosier pitcher. He gets a groundout to Tibbitts but surrenders a bunt single to Crisman despite a great throw to first. Chrisman steals second. Ey than walks Nowak. Jacob Starling then takes Ey over the left field fence so a three-run homer. A double and a hit-by-pitch now prompts a visit from Dustin Glant. Next pitch is a fly out easily caught by Jessee in left. The next pitch is ground ball fielder’s choice.
Top 4th: Indiana 1, East Carolina 3
Hunter Jessee is Yesavage’s seventh strikeout victim. Pyne legs out an infield single and advances into scoring position on a throwing error. With first base open, Matthison draws a one out walk. This gets Yesavage up to 58 pitches on the day. This is also the first real stressful inning Yesavage has faced. A couple of ground balls end the Hoosier threat.
Bottom 3rd: Indiana 1, East Carolina 3
Seiler gets two quick outs on the ground, but walks Hoover on four straight pitches. Makarewicz fought off a couple of 1-2 pitches foul and then flied out to Whalen.
Top 3rd: Indiana 1, East Carolina 3
After two strikeouts, Phillip Glasser pulls a home run to right center to get the Hoosiers on the board. Glasser has Indiana’s only two hits off of Trey Yesavage who has been excellent. Whalen strikes out to end the inning.
Bottom 2nd: Indiana 0, East Carolina 3
Lane Hoover bounces one to Seiler on a funky hop to get a lead off single. Alec Makarewicz pulls a single into right field. Tyler Cerny fields a hard hit bouncer and gets the force out at second, put runners on the corners with one out. A wild pitch plates Hoover. Josh Pyne throws out Nate Chrismon. Nowak gets a perfectly placed infield single beating out Glasser’s throw to get the Pirates up by three runs. Starling walks on a full count putting Nowak into scoring position. Seiler has thrown 39 stressful pitches. Dustin Glant is out to talk to him and Brooks Ey is throwing in the Hoosier bullpen. Seiler then gets Jenkins-Cowart to fly out to left.
Top 2nd: Indiana 0, East Carolina 1
Carter Mathison and Brock Tibbitts both flied out. Matthew Ellis went down on strikes.
Bottom 1st: Indiana 0, East Carolina 1
Ben “Bigs” Seiler is the Friday night pitcher. Luke Nowak drew a four pitch walk. Bigs corrected and got right into the zone. Jacob Starling lined out to center. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart hit a double down the right field line, putting two men in scoring position with just one out. Jesse caught a shallow fly, but the tagging runner still scored. Cam Clonch is retired after hitting a ground ball to Tyler Cerny at second base.
Top 1st: Indiana 0, East Carolina 0
Phillip Glasser leads the game off by reaching with the bat to pull a single into right field. Bobby Whalen and Hunter Jessee strike out. Josh Pyne flies out to right.
