Indiana University baseball team faced the Abilene Christian Wildcats in the second game of their non-conference series in Abilene, Texas, on Saturday afternoon. The Hoosiers quickly took the lead in the first inning, scoring two runs thanks to an outfield error and a single by Korbyn Dickerson. Hogan Denny added another run with a two-out hit, making it 2-0.

Ben Grable, on his 23rd birthday, started strong with a 1-2-3 inning, touching 95 mph with his fastball. In the second inning, Indiana extended their lead to 4-1 with a two-run homer by Denny. However, defensive errors by the Hoosiers allowed the Wildcats to score two unearned runs, narrowing the gap to 4-2. Despite these challenges, Grable managed to escape further damage.

The Hoosiers’ offense exploded in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs. Will Moore’s RBI double and Dickerson’s three-run homer were the highlights, pushing the lead to 11-2. Dickerson’s was particularly sweet as it came just after the Wildcats intentionally walked Devin Taylor. Dickerson has now officially come out of his recent slump.

Grable continued to pitch effectively, but a two-run homer by Diego Cardenas in the fifth inning cut the lead to 11-5. Grable was eventually replaced by lefty Grant Holderfield, who managed to strand two runners and maintain the lead. Holderfield struck out three in 1.1 innings of scoreless work.

Indiana added three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, including a sacrifice fly by Jake Hanley and a wild pitch that allowed Dickerson to score. Gavin Seebold took over pitching duties in the seventh inning and delivered a strong performance, securing a 1-2-3 inning. He continued to dominate, earning a nine-out save and sealing the Hoosiers’ 14-5 victory.

The win marked Indiana’s first road series victory of the season, with Holderfield earning the win and Seebold the save. They will go for the sweep tomorrow at 1pm ET.
