Cole Gilley earned the win in his second start with the Hoosiers. While not as impressive as his strat against Xavier last week (its hard to top that), he still managed a 1.0 WHIP on the day (0.77 on the season) allowing two earned runs on four hits and walk while striking out 7. Most the baserunners and both of the runs came in his last inning of work. Anthony Gubitiosi now leads the bullpen staff with 5.0 innings of work, and no earned runs with an impressive 0.80 WHIP. He worked two scoreless in relief.
While not getting hits, Andrew Wiggins and Jasen Oliver drew three walks on the day with Wiggins also reaching via hit-by-pitch. Despite only hitting .125 on the short season, Wiggins leads the team in on base percentage at .632 as he’s already earned 11 free passes on the season.
The win brings Indiana’s record to 2-4 on the season. They have one more game, Monday at 11am at the USA Baseball complex against Northwestern (not a B1G conference game). The two blowouts have allowed the Hoosiers to rest Drew Buhr, who likely be expected to pitch a large chunk of innings Monday. Ben Grable, Pete Haas, and Ryan Kraft might all be options as well.
