The Hoosiers improve to 11-8 after concluding the series sweep against Canisius with a 12-1 victory on Sunday.
Andrew Saalfrank was the storyline in game four with his dominant performance. He went seven innings, surrendering just five hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out a career-high fourteen.
Saalfrank was virtually unhittable with his ability to locate his fastball and his consistency with knee-buckling offspeed. It makes it easier to fill the zone when you’re getting the run support that Indiana’s lineup was providing.
Drew Ashley had a monstrous performance at the plate with a ground-rule double and a two-strike grand slam to give him a four RBI total on the day.
Ashley wasn’t the only one who launched one out of Bart Kaufman Field. Cole Barr started the second off with a solo shot to center and Ryan Fineman added a home run in the sixth to go along with his two RBI double in the third.
The freshmen continue to be a story for the Hoosiers at the plate. Tyler Van Pelt and Grant Richardson each singled home a run adding an RBI apiece to their already strong starts to their careers, while wiley veteran Matt Lloyd went hitless, but still managed to sacrifice home a run in the first.
The Hoosiers had four guys with multi-hit games and kept the strikeouts to a minimum with six. It was a good day at the dish all around and Cal Krueger bounced back nicely from his rough performance in Cincinnati. Krueger threw two scoreless innings allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.
It was a weekend full of offense and solid pitching from the back end of the weekend rotation that allowed Indiana to coast to its first series sweep of the season. They will look to build off this performance against a tough Indiana State team on Tuesday.
