Indiana had an eventful week. Tuesday saw the Hoosiers drop another close game, this time in the final home midweek game against Indiana State. The bats didn’t do enough to overcome several balls finding holes in a big middle inning.

The Hoosiers were down 6 to 1 going into the bottom of the 8th on Friday in the series opener with Maryland and showed that they are more than capable of staging a comeback and grinding out a win in a close game. Will Moore got on in the 8th after Cooper Malamazian cut the lead to 1 run with a two-run bomb. Moore scored on a two-out infield single by Korbyn Dickerson. Tyler Cerny, representing the winning run, got to third base on an errant pickoff throw with no outs. The sacrifice opportunity was squandered by two strikeouts. That brought back up Moore, who got into a two-strike count of his own but went the other way for a line drive single to walk it off. For his weekend efforts Moore was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

In steady rain on Saturday Cole Gilley and Grant Holderfield were ineffective in a pair of disastrous early innings that lead to Maryland evening up the series on Saturday.

Despite seemingly being outplayed, Maryland managed to tie the Easter Sunday rubber match at three runs in the bottom of the sixth before an onslaught lead by an historic 3-hit, 3-walk, reached base in all appearances day by Devin Taylor, who called game in the bottom of the 8th inning with a 3-run bomb to clinch the run-rule and give Indiana the series win.
