Indiana holds off a scare from last place Minnesota

The talking heads (especially here at iubase.com) have thought about this series as either a potential victory or sweep given Minnesota’s struggles over the past two seasons. At no point were we expecting Minnesota to score six runs on Indiana ace Jack Perkins. Every pitcher can have a day where things don’t go quite his way. That being said Perkins did get five innings in and an impressive string of Hoosier relievers kept Minnesota from scoring again and gave the Indiana offense a chance to come back. Which they did with a six-hit, six-run eighth inning. Matthew Ellis, Bobby Whalen, and Josh Pyne all had huge two-RBI hits as Indiana took the lead. Reese Sharp closed the door in a tense ninth inning to secure his fourth save of the season.
Indiana improves to 23-26 overall, 9-10 in B1G play with five games left to go including a 12 noon start at Bart Kaufman Field for the second game in the Minnesota series today.
