Scoreboard Watching – Week 2

Misery loves company and many B1G teams that I featured on Friday had tough weekends.

Nebraska vs. Oregon State in Surprise, AZ. Nebraska got swept by the defending national champs. Now, it’s kind of like Michigan sweeping the Citadel. It is both completely expected and tells you absolutely nothing.

Purdue at Texas. Purdue only managed a single win in four games against the defending Big XII champions. Especially given the strong starts of Illinois and Ohio State, Purdue may not have as week of a B1G slate as I originally thought, so my focus on the Boilers now looks a little misstated.

Minnesota at Dallas Baptist. Minnesota was supposed to be riding its pitching this year but after 7 games the Gophers have given up over 8 runs per game. The competition has been top notch, but the results have not been after dropping a weekend series at Dallas Baptist.

Michigan State in Brittain Resorts Baseball at the Beach Conway, SC. Speaking of giving up runs… the Spartans gave up over 10 runs per game on average in Conway and weren’t competitive in any of the four games to drop to 1-6 on the year.

Iowa at Hawaii. Well, it wasn’t all bad for my teams to watch. Iowa is taking care of business on Oahu. After dropping the opener to the Rainbow Warriors, the Hawkeyes have 9 outs to protect a 5-run lead to clinch a series win in paradise. And that’s just icing on the cake of spending a weekend in a paradise.
